The Energy Centre is a new development designed to provide a combined heat and power plant to the current Lend Lease developments in Elephant & Castle. In line with Lend Lease’s aspiration for the building to be rated BREEAM Outstanding, it was important to consider the environmental impacts of each stage and demonstrate how Barretts of Aspley could play its part. The client required the installation of a steel structure within a logistically sensitive location, due to its close proximity to a primary school. Combined with the challenge of limited space on the site, storage of materials was not going to be possible, this required the ability to provide logistical excellence and a tactful installation strategy.
By phasing the steelwork deliveries within the allotted time spaces, our site installation teams were able to take advantage of Barretts of Aspley’s FORS accredited fleet of vehicles and install directly from our flatbed lorry, avoiding overcrowding on site and satisfying the client’s environmental requirements. Positive lifting devices were designed specifically for the installation of this project, minimising the contact with the fire protection applied to the steelwork. The feature stairs started with a structural frame which was installed with the Structural steelwork as it was design as an integral part of the structure. BOA provided guidance and means of application to the design, achieving the aesthetic required by the client and architect. Once the stair structure was installed, Barretts of Aspley completed an electronic survey to allow accurate manufacture of the balustrade panels and handrail.
